BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 13th

A Regular Meeting of the Village of Mead Board of Trustees was held August 13, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the Village Office. Answering roll call were Chairman Thorson; Trustees Felty, Lee, Simon, and Wielage. Also present were Clerk Moline and Utilities/Maintenance Superintendent Luetkenhaus. Guest was Andrew Jackson.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm to enter a Budget Workshop.

 

BUDGET WORKSHOP

The workshop was called to order at 6:00 pm with the following answering roll call: Thorson, Felty, Lee, Simon and Wielage.

 

Accountant Lisa Flesner reviewed the current year budget and the proposed budget for fiscal year 10/1/24 – 9/30/25.

 

Public input was called.

 

The board reconvened to regular session at 6:45 pm.

 

The following action was approved: July 9 Regular Meeting minutes; Treasurer’s Report; Pay Application #2 to ME Collins for street construction in the amount of $234,065.84; and payment of claims.

 

NEW BUSINESS

The One-& Six-Year Street Plan was approved. Action was taken to approve: Liquor License Application from Mead Me At The Goat for addition of a deck and back room; SDLL to Mead Me At The Goat to enclose an outdoor area on August 17 for a birthday party; fixed term with Constellation for natural gas 11/1/24 – 10/30/25; SDLL to Karen’s Spirits & Smokes for a wedding celebration at the Community Building on September 7; granted permission to Mead Days Committee to close Fourth Street from Cedar Street to Vine Street on December 7 for a Mead Holiday Event; placement of a cabinet within the lift station fence to Spectrum; and Colby Properties to grind a curb at 710 S. Cedar Street.

 

REPORTS

Utilities/Maintenance Superintendent – Luetkenhaus reported on First/Pine Street project, routine maintenance, and lead/copper inventory. Library – The July 30 Library Board Meeting minutes were accepted. Police – Sackett submitted a recorded statement questioning his annual review. Stated within was that he was seeking action on the review and a wage increase. He indicated if not so, consider this his resignation. The board approved his resignation. Building/Zoning Administrator – The following permits were approved: 24-12 MacDonald Investments – construct pole building; 24-13 Scott and Roni Subbert – set two storage containers; 24-14 Darsey Moline – construct 6’ wooden fence; 24-15 June Moline – install 6’ chain-link kennels. Clerk – Moline reported completion of lead/copper surveys, collecting of completed cross connection surveys, Holiday Lighting Event – December 7, and Mead Day Clean-up Day – June 7, 2025.

 

DISCUSSION ITEMS

Discussion was held on the use of Keno funds for betterment projects.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.

NEW Back to School Hours:

         Monday 3:30p – 8p, Tuesday   9a – 12n & 3:30p – 5:30p, Wednesday 3:30p – 8p,

Thursday  9a – 12n & 3:30 – 5:30p, Friday 8a –11a , Saturday  9a –12n

 

The Library will be closed on Monday, September 2; Monday, September 9; and Friday, September 13.  On Thursday, September 5, the library will be open only for the 330-530p hours.

 

Coffee Hour: Join us for Coffee and conversation every Tuesday at 10a.

Story Time: Attend our Story Time Program on Wednesdays after school at 4p. We will read books, make a craft, and take home a snack. Best for kids ages 4-8.

Events for September:

Tuesday, September 3 – The Mead Public Library Board will have its monthly meeting at 6p. The session is open to the public.

Wednesday, September 11 – Join the group that meets for the Library’s Adult Book Club at 630p.

Mondays, September 16 and 23– Participate in an Adult DIY Craft Night from 6-8p. Bring your own craft to work on and enjoy the conversation and fun.

Wednesday, September 25 – It isn’t Christmas yet, but cookies are for any time! At 630p, the library will host a Cookie Exchange. Bring a dozen of your favorite cookies and the recipe to exchange and share. “Best Tasting Cookie” wins a prize. Ages 18 and up.

Monday, September 30 – The Alma Book Club will meet at the library at 630p. All adults are welcome.
