BOARD OF TRUSTEES HOLD REGULAR MEETING – AUGUST 11th

The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met Tuesday, August 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mead Community Building. Answering roll call were Chairman Thorson; Trustees Felty, Guyle, Wielage, and Wimer.  Also present were Clerk Moline and Utility/Maintenance Superintendent Raver.  Guests were Todd and Kim Clark, Gene Janecek, Greg and Laura Clark, Rick Miller, J.P. Hannan, Steve Mayfield, Shari Else, Ed Schroeder, Lisa Flesner, and Don Anderson.

BUDGET WORKSHOP:  A Budget Workshop was held at 6:05 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.  The 10/1/20 through 9/30/21 budget was reviewed.

SCHEDULED GUESTSJ.P. Hannan inquired about the purchase of 35’ of land owned by the village that would allow him to construct a garage.  Don Anderson addressed a concern with repair of a sidewalk and removal of a sidewalk at 419 S. Vine St.  Permission was granted to remove the sidewalk on the south side of the property.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:  Discussion continued on the request for a variance from Greg and Laura Clark to place a modular house and in the future construct a garage at 421 S. Cedar St.  Following discussion, Resolution 20-06 was adopted allowing the variance.

REPORTSPlanning Commission – The minutes of the July 27 Regular Meeting and Public Hearing and Building Permit 20-15 to Thomas Ellis to erect a 6’ cedar privacy fence was accepted.  Action was taken to approve J.P. Hannan as a member of the Planning Commission and void Building Permit 19-06 to Shawn Havelka for a garage addition.

PUBLIC HEARING:  A Public Hearing was held from 7:00 p.m. – 7:05 p.m.  The purpose of the hearing was to consider a proposal from the Planning Commission to amend language to the Zoning Regulations.

NEW BUSINESS:  Ordinance No. 754, Amend Chapter 11, Article 3, Sections 11-304 A-1 Agricultural and Article 4 Additional Regulations 11-412 Signs, was adopted, the One and Six Year Street Plan was reviewed, and the board agreed the 10/1/20 through 9/30/21 library budget will remain the same as this year’s budget.  Ordinance No. 755, Set wage for substitute librarians at $9.00 per hour was adopted.

REPORTSPolice – The Monthly Police Report was reviewed.  Two nuisances were forwarded from Carlson.  Action was taken to adopt Resolution 20-10, Nuisance Declared on Lots 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21, Block 31, Original Town Mead.  Utility/Maintenance Superintendent – A delinquent water / sewer bill was reported.  Library – The minutes of the July 20 Library Board meeting were accepted. Laurie Van Ackeren, Lori Moseman, and Rachelle Laurizen were approved as library substitutes.

The meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.

BUILDING REQUIREMENTS ~

 

If you are planning a building or demolition project, you must obtain a permit from the village prior to beginning the project.  A penalty fee of $100 will be assessed if you do start it prior to approval. Building and Demolition Permits are approved by the Planning Commission and all districts other than residential districts will need final approval from the Board of Trustees.

The Planning Commission meets the fourth Monday of the month, other than May which could be the third Monday if Memorial Day falls on the fourth Monday, and no meeting in December.  Contact the Village Office or visit www.meadnebraska.net for the Building Permit Application.  A sample permit is also available on the website.  You must contact the Village Office to be placed on the agenda.  State Statutes regulate that an agenda cannot be changed 24 hours prior to a meeting.

HOW TO PAY BILLS – If you are interested in having us email your utility statement to you please let the village office know.  If you would like to have your payment withdrawn from your account through your financial institution on the 15th of the month, stop at the office and sign the appropriate paperwork to do so.  Payments may be made in cash, by check, automatic withdrawal, or debit/credit card for water/sewer bills.  Additional options are to mail your payment to Box 46, Mead, NE  68041, deliver to the village office or Bank of Mead, or the drop box by the office front door.

Curbside Pick-up and Home Delivery

of Materials

 

The Mead Public Library is still offering curbside pick-up and home delivery of collection materials at no charge during regular business hours.                                  

Library Staff will prepackage and check out up to ten (10) items per library card for Mead residents. Please call 402-624-6605 or email: MeadLibrary@outlook.com with your requests and let us know what time you will come by to pick them up. Home deliveries are available on Wednesdays and Fridays.

You can also reserve items online using our catalog: https://mead.biblionix.com (items are not guaranteed to be available for immediate check out as all returned items will be quarantined for 4 days).    Please include your full name when requesting items from the collection and allow at least 1 hour for staff to prepare your materials.
