Mead Days 2024 Wastin’ Away Again in MEADarataville!
The weekend started off with great polka music by Stimulus Czech. A special thanks to Kylee Hickman and Angie Siske for organizing EPIC Hopscotch. Kids and families decorated the sidewalks with chalk from the park to school. Too bad it rained Friday night and washed away the beautiful drawings before Saturday’s events.
We had 14 participants in Queen Volleyball this year. We had one category this year and Riley Koranda was the overall winner. We are hoping next year to have two categories again.
Encounter Life Ministries held several fun games for kids to do and over 50 kids participated. We had 21 teams in our Beer Pong competition with Hunter Pickworth and Evan Halbmaier as the winners. Second place went to Caleb Dickes and Connor Johnson. Karaoke was lots of fun. It was fun to see all ages up on stage singing and dancing. The evening finished with a great fireworks show by Midwest Fireworks/Twisted Thunder Fireworks.
Saturday started off with lots of color. A packet was given to each participant to have a kick-off color celebration. We had 51 registered participants in our 5K Color Run. The weather was perfect. Each participant was able to receive six stations of color. A special thanks to Mead volleyball and basketball players for being color dispensers and Mead PTO for assisting with the run. The overall sinner was Seth Crouse with a time of 20.12, second Justin Felty 20.49, and third Jacob Feldhaus 20.50. It was so beautiful and fun. A special thanks to Ariel and Mitch Broekemeier for supplying water for our runners.
We continued with Sand Co-ed Volleyball, with eight teams. The winner of the tournament was Bank of Mead – Shawn Havelka, Miranda Koertner, Karen Pieper, and Chad Blacketer. Second place went to Big Digs – Janie Munter, Tytus Lee, Tristan Zwiener, Bri Lemke, and Emmett Couch. We had ten teams for the Horseshoe Tournament with the winners being Jonathan Bouc and Reagan Glatter. Second place went to Shawn Havelka and Chad Blacketer.
A special thanks to the Yutan VFW/American Legion for starting the parade with the Color Guard. Mary Hass sang the National Anthem. PJ Quinn was our MC for the parade. We had 19 cars and 14 other floats, three fire departments and several walking entries. The kids and adults all enjoyed the parade.
