BOARD OF TRUSTEES HOLD MEETING JANUARY 9th

 

The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met January 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the Village Office. Answering roll call were Chairman Thorson; Trustees Felty, Lee, Simon, and Wielage. Also present was Clerk Moline. Guest was Amanda Lee.

 

UNSCHEDULED GUEST: Amanda Lee expressed concern of a water leak at the meter at her residence.

 

NEW BUSINESS: Interest loans were presented from the Bank of Mead, Wahoo State Bank, and First Bank of Nebraska. Action was taken to adopt Resolution 24-01, Loan with the Bank of Mead in the amount of $55,456.00 for street tarring and UTV purchase; approved a SDLL to the Mead Volunteer Fire Department to host a Wild Game Feed on February 17 at the Community Building; approved a SDLL to Mead Days Association to host a town celebration at the park on June 14 and 15;  approved submitting wiring of a heater at the Water Treatment Plant to the USDA for approval of grant funding; and adopted Ordinance No. 826, Wage increase to the Library Assistant.

 

Discussion was held on Broadband Grant approval with Spectrum; 501(c)3; Industrial zoning, and Special Meeting date change to January 30.

 

REPORTS: Utilities/Maintenance – Thorson reported snow removal and Lead Surveys. Library – The minutes of the January 3 meeting were accepted and noted release of employee from Workmen’s Compensation. Planning Commission – Accepted were the minutes of the November 27, 2023 Regular Meeting.

 

The board entered Executive Session at 6:38 pm to prevent needless injury to the reputation of the person.

 

The regular meeting was reconvened at 6:50 pm.

 

Ordinance No. 822, Wage increase to Clerk/Treasurer was adopted.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm.

PANERA BREAD FREE TO THE PUBLIC  Saturday following the second Friday every month, 10 am – 2 pm. FREE TO ALL!  This month the church will be open on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10.

Mead Ball Association anticipates teams for the foll0wing ages in 2024:

 

  • TBall (boys and girls)
  • Coachpitch boys
  • Coachpitch girls (8u softball)
  • 9/10 Boys Baseball
  • 10u Girls Softball
  • 12u Girls Softball

 

While it seems warm weather is far away, league registration is due as early as March for some ages, and should any age level not have enough players, or no coach, this gives us time to alert parents if necessary to sign-up elsewhere.

 

Forms are available at Mead Public Schools or the Bank of Mead. Information about each level is located on the form. Payment preferred via venmo or dropped off at the Bank of Mead.

If you reside within the corporate limits of the Village of Mead know that all dogs and cats are required to be licensed annually by May 1.  Licenses may be obtained at the village office during regular business hours or by mailing your pet’s information, current rabies vaccination record, and payment to Box 46, Mead. You may also deliver to the drop box located by the village office front door and your record will be returned to you along with the receipt and tag via mail or door delivery. Cost to license your dog or cat is $4.00 altered / $6.00 intact.

 

All-terrain Vehicles, Utility-type Vehicles, and Golf Cars driven within village corporate limits are required to be licensed annually by APRIL 1. Applications and guidelines are available at the Village Office, Police Chief, or online at www.meadnebraska.net. Insurance coverage, vehicle inspection, and orange flag are among the requirements. Cost is $50.00 for the permit. Go-carts and minibikes are NOT PERMITTED on public property or streets.

Doors open at 6 pm.

Freewill Donations collected at the door

 

Raffle Tickets will be available for $5.00. Prizes include Rifle, Shotgun and Yeti Cooler.

 

Food donations encouraged.

 

Contact a MVFD member to donate wild game ahead of time or bring a cooked dish to share.

 

Alcohol will be sold; no outside drinks are allowed.

Events for February:

Tuesday, February 6 – The Mead Public Library Board will have its monthly meeting at 6p. The session is open to the public.

Monday, February 5, and 12 – Participate in Adult DIY Craft Night from 6p-8p. Bring your own craft to work on and enjoy the conversation.

Tuesday, February 6, 13, 20 and 27 – Join us for Coffee and conversation at 10a.

Saturday, February 10 – Kids! It’s time to make a cute Valentine’s Day Craft at 10a!   All ages are welcome.

Wednesday, February 28 – Stop in any time between 6p and 8p to play some fun board games! Bring the family, friends or come alone.  Refreshments will be served. Ages 6 – 99 are welcome!

 

The library now has TWO Book Clubs, for your convenience.  All adults are welcome to either one or both!  The last Monday of the month is a potluck dinner, and the 2nd Wednesday of the month is a take-turns-dessert club. Both Book Clubs start at 630p and end around 8p. Join us for a fun evening: February 14 and/or February 26.

WHAT A STORM ~ Thank you to everyone that volunteered their service, homes, church building, businesses, and food and drink during the recent snowstorm to care for those stranded in the storm. A special thank you to the Mead Volunteer Fire Department for the countless hours they put in rescuing stranded motorists. The Board of Trustees and staff cannot be more proud and thankful for the way you all stepped up in this emergency situation.
