     The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met January 14, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Office.  Present were Chairman Guyle; Trustees Havelka, Miller, Wielage and Wimer.  Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility / Maintenance Supt. Raver and Police Chief Carlson.  Guest was Jody Weible.

     SCHEDULED GUEST:  Jody Weible, Planning Commission Chair, sought clarification of front yard setbacks for the Single Family and Residential Family Districts.  She reported the width of streets vary in Mead, causing problems with consistencies as to where a resident’s front yard measurement should begin.  The board agreed that applicants for a Building Permit shall have their boundaries located prior to the application being submitted for approval.

     PUBLIC HEARING:  A Public Hearing was held at 6:06 p.m.  Action was taken to adopt Resolution 14-02, One and Six Year Street Improvement Plan.  The hearing adjourned at 6:09 p.m.

     UTILITY/MAINTENANCE REPORT:  Raver reported recent water line break, water meter shutoffs and request from contractor of the lagoon system for an extension of time to complete the project.  The board denied the request.

     POLICE REPORT:  The Monthly Police Report was reviewed.

     CLERK REPORT:  Request to update the International Building Code per state statute was denied.  Upcoming FEMA meeting was noted and reported was a $50.00 scholarship to attend Clerk Institute.

     NEW BUSINESS:  Billing of the Fire Department for electrical use at the Quonset last year was accepted, First reading of Ordinance No. 643, Sewer Rates was approved; Resolution 14-01, Lien on Account #1480 for delinquent water / sewer bill was adopted; and Resolution 14-03 Special Designated Liquor License to Mead Volunteer Fire Dept. during Mead Days, June 20, 21 and 22 at the Mead Park, with alternate location as the Community Building was adopted.  A Special Permit to the Mead Days Committee to close designated streets during Mead Days was approved.  A Water Study and Treatment Evaluation with Olsson Associates was approved. 

     The board entered executive session at 7:00 p.m. for annual evaluation of the Clerk / Treasurer and strategy session with respect to real estate purchase.  A 5% wage increase was approved for the Clerk / Treasurer.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:28 p.m.

Happy New Year to Everyone!  We at the Mead Public Library are excited to get started on a new year and look forward to continuing to serve the community in any way that we are able.  We will continue to have Story Time on Tuesdays 4:00-4:30 & Saturdays 11:30-Noon where we will read, do crafts and have snack.  We are getting ready for Summer Reading Camp, this year’s theme is “FIZZ, BANG, BOOM!” and will have a Science flavor with lots of fun for all the participants!
The annual Friends of the Library Spaghetti Feed is on January 25th beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Mead Public High School…join us for good food and help support the library!
Saturday February 1st, 2014 is “NATIONAL TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THE LIBRARY DAY!”  Join us here at the Mead Public Library for an extra special surprise. Storytime that day from 11:30-Noon!  Stop in anytime all day with your child/children and enjoy a cookie or two and find a good book or DVD to enjoy together.  See you at the library!
