MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING JULY 10
The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met July 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Office. Present were Trustees Felty, Guyle, Wielage and Wimer. Absent was Chairman Havelka. Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Superintendent Raver, Police Chief Carlson and Library Director VanAckeren. Guests were Dale Rawson, Brenda Halbmaier, Ron Raver, Jody and Kacee Weible, Bill and Patty Thorson and Ray Loftus. Guyle was elected to serve as Chairman Pro Tempore.
SPECIAL GUESTS: Mead Public Schools Superintendent Dale Rawson, inquired about the termination of the Sander Agreement and Common Facility Agreement. It was agreed the two boards will meet as the Common Facility Board to seek a continued partnership between the school and village for numerous programs. Ron Raver brought concerns about a shed and varmints on a neighboring property by his rental property.
UNSCHEDULED GUESTS: Concerns regarding the ethanol plant were presented.
REPORTS: LIBRARY – The minutes of the June 18 board meeting were accepted. VanAckeren presented the Annual Library Report, discussed amending ordinance to allow board membership for residents residing outside village limits and reappointed Layla Giorgakopoulos and Jennifer Lee to the board. POLICE – Police Chief Carlson presented the monthly police report and presented the deadline of July 20, 2018 to remove the shed from a property named in Nuisance Abatement Resolution 17-16. PLANNING COMMISSION – The minutes of the regular meeting were accepted. Permits issued were: Lee Daniels—erect 4’ vinyl fence; Perry Storm—construct 2 decks and back steps; Scott and Veronica Subbert—erect 5’ wire fence; and Joshua and Katie Sharpe—construct front porch addition. UTILITY/MAINTENANCE – Raver reported Sanitary Survey, installation of new water line near Mead Jr.-Sr. High School, budget for generator at wellhouse, pilot testing results, and purchase of grass carps and minnows for the lagoon system. Clerk reported a disputed utility bill. CLERK – Moline reported sale of 54 pet licenses to date, $50.00 grant toward the 2018 Easter Egg Hunt, future purchase of a meter reader and autogun, and reported sign-up deadlines for candidates for the Board of Trustees.
NEW BUSINESS: Action was taken to adopt first reading of Ord. 715, amend water rates and Ord. 716, water and sewer connections. Action was taken to approve the annual review of all Conditional Use Permits; adopted Resolution 18-05 Sale of Depot by bidding process; pay 50% of umpire fees for the 2018 baseball/softball season; transfer funds from First National Bank for the water project; and pursue a street project along N. Oak St. The board entered executive session at 8:35 p.m. for prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual during employee evaluations. Regular session was reconvened at 8:52 p.m. Ord. 714 to amend wages was adopted. Wage increases were 3% – Utility/Maintenance Superintendent and Park Restroom Custodian; 2% – Police Chief; and approved recommendation of the Library Board for increase of 5% – Library Director and 3% Assistant Library Director and Library Aide. The meeting adjourned at 8:53 p.m.

NEW Library Hours – This revised schedule is effective August 1.

NOTE: The Library will be closed from 4pm-8pm on Thursday August 9, 6pm-8pm on Tuesday August 14, 9am-1pm on Friday, August 24, and Noon-4pm on Thursday, August 30.
Monthly Schedule
Coffee Hour is scheduled every Tuesday at 10am. Join us for coffee and conversation.
Story Time for young children is offered every Tuesday at 4pm. We will read a book or two, make a craft, and pick up a take home snack.
The Mead Public Library Board of Trustees will meet Monday, August 20, at 530pm in the Library.
The Lunch Bunch Book Club will gather Friday, August 17, from 11am-12 noon. This club is open to any adult interested in reading a book and gathering with others to discuss it over a cup of coffee.
Special Events
The annual Village Budget Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14 beginning at 6pm. At this meeting, the Village Board will consider the Library’s Board’s budget request for 2018-2019. Please consider attending, to show your support of the library.
Wednesday, August 22 – If you joined the Adult Summer Reading Program, plan to attend our Afterhours Party from 8pm-9pm. We’ll have appetizers and many prizes to give away! Remember to bring in your Reading Log. Call or stop in the library for more details!

If you would like your water / sewer invoice emailed to you please provide your address to the village office. Payments may be made at the office by cash, check, credit card, deliver to the Bank of Mead, or mail to the Village of Mead, Box 46, Mead, NE 68041-0046. A drop box is located by the village office front door for your convenience. If you have an account with the Bank of Mead and wish to have your payment automatically withdrawn on the 15th, stop at the village office and sign up for automatic withdrawal. A future consideration is to allow all checking account holders of any bank within the United States to have automatic withdrawal on the 15th. We will keep you posted on this option for future use.
Mead Public Schools begins the 2018-2019 school year on Wednesday, August 15. Please be aware that many students may be riding their bicycles or walking to and from school. STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS POSTED IN MEAD AND SLOW DOWN AT ALL INTERSECTIONS. DO NOT EXCEED THE POSTED SPEED LIMITS IN TOWN.
