Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, July 30th, 2024
- Meeting was called to order by Jenn Lee at 6:07pm. Open Meetings Act poster was pointed out on the west wall of the back room.
- Roll Call:
- Members Present: Kylee Hickman (2024), Amanda Schaal (2028), Cara Simon (2027), Jenn Lee (2026)
- Members Absent: Sara Else (2027)
- Library Employees Present: Director-Laurie VanAckeren
- Library Employees Absent: Lori Moseman, Roberta Kisling, Rachelle Gay

- Minutes, Bills, Financials, and Monthly Reports for July 2nd
- July 2nd minutes reviewed.
- July Bills/Financial transactions report not available.
- Lee moved to approve July 2nd Minutes, second by Hickman. Motion carried. Unanimous approval.
- New Business/Director’s Report
- July stats were reviewed. Another increase over last month of patron visits and program attendance. Libby circulation report for July was not available.
- Upcoming End-of-Summer events to note:
- TWO Adult Book Clubs each month. Due to a change in Library Summer Hours, the Mead Library Adult Book Club has been moved to Monday, August 12th at 6:30. In September, Book Club will move back to the second Wednesday of each month, starting September 11th at 6:30pm.
- Adult Summer Reading Challenge wraps up July 31st. Return challenge forms to the Library and enter your tickets into selected drawing buckets for a chance to win the corresponding prize! Drawings will take place at 10:30a on Tuesday, August 13th. HUGE Thank you to many local individuals and organizations for providing donations for prizes including Scott and Dalene Selko, Todd Valley Farms, AWS Well Co., Bank of Mead, Subert Well, and Insulfoam.
- Stop in for a Chocolate Chip Cookie on Saturday morning, August 3rd between 9am-12pm.
- BACK TO SCHOOL LIBRARY HOURS begin Monday, August 12 as follows:
- Monday- 3:30pm-8:00pm
- Tuesday- 9:00am-12:00pm and 3:30pm-5:30pm
- Wednesday- 3:30pm-8:00pm
- Thursday- 9:00am-12:00pm and 3:30pm-5:30pm
- Friday- 8:00am-11:00am
- Saturday- 9:00am-12pm
- Sunday- Closed
- Board Member Reports
- The Village Board approved splitting the cost for a new light for our flagpole. Library Board Member Lee will work with Village Board Member Lee to purchase the new light. Town Maintenance Supervisor Luetkenhaus will install.
- Member Simon met with the Village Accountant/Team on July 15th and discussed proposed changes for the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year. Once input, Accountant will provide updated Budget figures to be voted on by the Library Board.
- Scott Childers from the Nebraska Library Commission will be attending our October Library Board meeting to present Commission’s purpose/resources offered and answer any questions of the Library Board.
- Library Board members continue to complete Credit Hours required to maintain Accreditation. 16.5 hours must be completed and submitted to the NLC by August 31st.
