Board of Trustees Meeting
Monday, August 20th, 2018 5:30pm
President Miller called the meeting to order at 5:30pm. The posting of Open Meetings Law on
the Library bulletin board was noted.
Board members present: Viki Miller (2020), Paulette Mayfield (2020), Jennifer Lee (2022), and Layla Giorgakopoulos (2022)
Staff present: Director Laurie Van Ackeren, Assistant Director Lori Moseman and Library Assistant Mary Mayfield
Guests present: Jennie Grasiani from Mead; Mary Kay Arp from Yutan; and Scott Childers, Southeast Library Systems (SELS) Director
There were no items of public discussion.
Director’s Report: Van Ackeren indicated discussion of new ceiling tiles will be discussed in September. Board member Lee was thanked for the painting and designs on the picnic table. A reminder was given of the After Hours Summer Reading Get Together on Wednesday at 8pm. All adults who have read Library books (checked out from the Mead Library) this summer are welcome. It was reported The Friends of the Library donated $50.00 toward cost of the Movie in the Park sponsored by Mead Days Committee.
Motion by Mayfield to approve Minutes, Bills and Financials and Monthly Reports for July
2018, second by Giorgakopoulos. Vote: Miller-Yes, P. Mayfield-Yes, Giorgakopoulos-Yes, Lee-Yes. Motion carried 4-0.
Business Items: The budget for 2018-2019 was discussed and it was decided Miller will email June Moline, Mead Village Clerk, to ask about the discrepancy in the Salary line item on the proposed budget given to Van Ackeren by the Village Accountant. P. Mayfield moved further discussion of the budget be tabled until information from the Clerk is available.
Voting: P. Mayfield-Yes, Miller-Yes, Lee-Yes, and Giorgakopoulos-Yes. Motion carried 4-0.
Miller will also contact the Village Clerk to confirm the process for having the Village Board approve new Library Board members Jennie Grasiani and Kacee Weible.
At 5:50 the Board began a training session with Scott Childers. He provided a handout and discussed roles and responsibilities of being a Library Board of Trustees member.
Motion by Miller to adjourn meeting at 7:20, second by Lee. Voting: P. Mayfield-Yes, Miller-Yes, Lee-Yes, Giorgakopoulos-Yes. Motion carried 4-0.
