PROCEEDINGS – VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES
SPECIAL MEETING
March 29, 2021
A Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mead, NE was held March 29, 2021 at the Mead Community Building. Chairman Thorson called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. Notice of the meeting was provided in advance thereof by posting notice at the Bank of Mead, US Post Office, and the Village Office as shown by the certificate of posting notice attached to these minutes. Advance notice was also provided to all members of the Board of Trustees. All proceedings were held while the convened meeting was open to the public. Roll call showed the following board members present: Chairman William Thorson; Trustees Jason Felty, Jason Lee, Daniel Simon, Jr. and Richard Wielage. Also present was Clerk June Moline.
Thorson noted the Posting of the Open Meetings Law placed on the table by the front door.
Motion by Wielage, second by Felty, to adopt the agenda. Vote: Felty-yes, Lee-yes, Simon-yes, Thorson-yes, Wielage-yes; motion carried 5-0.
Thorson stated the purpose of the meeting was to consider hiring an Interim Police Officer/Nuisance Enforcement Officer during Police Chief Carlson’s absence. Prior to the meeting, Candidate Tom Sackett was interviewed by Lee and Simon at 5:00 p.m. and Wielage and Felty at 5:30 p.m. The board members were pleased with the interview and indicated Mr. Sackett is personable, has his own uniform and flap jacket, and is flexible. Mr. Sackett presented an outline of hours he proposes to work. Discussion was held on equipment and cruiser. Purchase of a handheld radio will take place once he begins his duties. A body camera, ticketing computer, and used vehicle may be purchased at a later date.
Motion by Thorson, second by Felty to hire Tom Sackett as the Interim Police Officer/Nuisance Enforcement Officer. Vote: Lee-no, Simon-yes, Thorson-yes, Wielage-yes, Felty-yes; motion carried 4-1.
Wielage introduced, motioned to waive three readings, and adopt Ordinance No. 766, Set wage for Interim Police Officer/Nuisance Enforcement Officer at $23.00 hour for a 15-hour week. Vote: Simon-yes, Thorson-yes, Wielage-yes, Felty-yes, Lee-yes; motion carried 5-0.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE OF MEAD, SAUNDERS COUNTY, NEBRASKA, TO PROVIDE FOR AMENDMENT OF THE WAGE OR SALARY OF THE INTERIM POLICE OFFICER / NUISANCE ABATEMENT OFFICER OF THE VILLAGE OF MEAD, NEBRASKA.
Motion by Felty, second by Lee, to adjourn at 6:14 p.m. Vote: Thorson-yes Wielage-yes, Felty-yes, Lee-yes, Simon-yes; motion carried 5-0.
